Itronix Announces Availability of GSM Together With Range of Software for Husky fex21

Itronix Corporation, a world leader in the design and manufacture of ruggedised, wireless mobile computing solutions, has announced the availability of GSM as well as a comprehensive range of software that maximise the usability, flexibility and application of the Husky fex21 wireless handheld computer. The Husky fex21 is now available with the Nokia 2.0 Cardphone, the Communiqué Suite from Technological Business Solutions Ltd and EZOS EzWAP. Calligrapher and Citrix ICA technology are also available.

Marco Landi, Itronix’ General Manager for Handheld Products, comments, “Itronix is fully committed to delivering all its products with integrated wireless communications for mobile users needing to communicate with both LANs and WANs. Worldwide, the Husky fex21 has been our most successful Win CE platform and to become a truly universal product it must have integrated radio.” At the same time as announcing the availability of GSM in Europe, Itronix is also launching the availability of Cellular Digital Packet Data in the US*. Within a few months the fex21 will be fully compatible with all the leading radio US and European networks.

Wireless GSM Communications will be performed through the integrated Nokia type II PC Card and will provide full voice and data wireless GSM support through the Husky fex21. With a view not to compromise the environmental characteristics of the product, Itronix has designed a rugged antenna cover to protect the Nokia antenna. In addition, the internal design of the Husky fex21 has been modified to increase the efficiency of the radio interface, thereby significantly improving radio communications. Wireless GSM Capability allows the Husky fex21 to provide comprehensive communications functionality from any location at all times.
The dual-band PC Card ensures compatibility with all leading cellular communications network providers. The Nokia 2 GSM Integration kit, supplied as part of the solution, delivers an easy to use interface for all voice and data communications on the move.

To fully utilise the functional benefits provided by the Nokia GSM PC Card, Itronix has assembled together some of today's finest Windows CE mobile communications software, including the Communiqué Suite from Technological Business Solutions Ltd (TBS) and EzWAP, the popular WAP browser developed by EZOS s.a..

Communiqué Suite from TBS is a complete communications suite for the Husky fex21. It enables the user to send and receive SMS messages as well as providing full management functions for these activities. In addition, Communiqué Suite delivers comprehensive contacts management using the Windows CE contacts’ database.

Also available is the EZOS EzWAP browser that enables mobile computer users to exploit the speed and cost of WAP technology for data communications. By fully integrating WAP technology into the Husky fex21, Itronix is allowing its customers to perform data-oriented communications applications now and preparing them for more complex applications in the future. Applications such as job despatch and simple e-mail messages are ideally suited to WAP technology as they are purely data-based functions. The speed and cost of WAP technology compared to other leading communication protocols is driving the rapid advancement of this technology. As it continues to develop, organisations will soon be able to deliver enterprise applications to the mobile computer user and the Husky fex21 will be capable of exploiting these advances.

Citrix ICA Thin Client technology allows users to interrogate data held in core applications on the corporate server and then to display it onto the Husky fex21. Previously, applications would have to be developed specifically for handheld devices. Citrix ICA gives Husky fex21 users ‘Virtual Screen Control’, the first server-based computing feature that allows handheld PCs to navigate application displays designed for larger desktop screens. ICA enables fex21 users to access applications, such as Windows office productivity and line-of-business tools, via a wireless network.

ParaGraph’s CalliGrapher natural handwriting recognition software is one of the industry’s best selling Windows CE titles. The product is unique in that it can recognise, interpret and incorporate cursive writing, print or a combination of both. In addition to regular words and letters, CalliGrapher recognises numerical characters, standard punctuation, special symbols and editing gestures. It also has sophisticated spell checking, dictionary and calculator features.
