5/9/2002 Information Technology Used During the Pentagon's 'Operation Misty Court' Exercise May 8, 2002 The U.S. Pentagon, in conjunction with federal, state and local agencies, held a Defense Protective Services (DPS) exercise. The exercise will consist of a number of activities usually associated with the initial response to an act of chemical terrorism, including: victim rescue, triage, treatment and decontamination, agent identification, site security and crowd control, monitoring for contamination, contamination control, device or debris recovery and packaging. An important and innovative part of the exercise is the information technology used to support the teams. Itronix Corporation, Defense Group Inc. and Telos Corporation have combined to develop the most advanced IT solution available—one that allows first responders to quickly and safely react to any chemical or bio-terrorism event. ABOUT THE IT SOLUTION Itronix: Providing ultra rugged, wireless notebook computing solutions The Itronix GoBook MAX is the fastest, most rugged wireless notebook computer in the world. It exceeds military specs for drop, water resistance, dust and vibration. The MAX thrives in the most severe environments, including searing heat, freezing cold and even typhoon rains. And the GoBook MAX is the only intrinsically safe notebook computer currently available—a quality essential to chemical and biochemical first responders. It enables operators to safely work in haz-mat environments, even near hazardous chemicals or explosives. The GoBook MAX is also the only notebook computer rugged enough to survive decontamination procedures. Itronix’s innovative CRMA™ (Common Radio Module Architecture) wireless communication allows the MAX to be used with multiple wireless networks. During the exercise the GoBook MAX computers will be linked via a Telos wireless LAN system, and pre-loaded with DGI’s CoBRA software. DGI (Defense Group Inc.)provides customized CoBRA software to safely respond to chemical and biological contaminants, Toxic Industrial Chemicals, and Improvised Explosive Devices The Chemical Biological Response Aide (CoBRA) system developed by DGI provides critical data and procedural guidelines for incident response. This tailored software, along with appropriate data files is a resource for firefighters, emergency medical personnel, law enforcement, haz-mat teams, emergency management and forensics examiners. CoBRA is currently in use by FBI, FEMA, National Guard, and State and Local Responders, and successfully supported the 2002 SLC Olympic Games. A few CoBRA features include: Instant access to information about all known chemical and biological effects, as well as improvised explosive devices Detailed procedures for assessing, containing, and mitigating these threats Automatic tracking and incident reporting, allowing Responders to “push” data to their command center for additional analysis Built-in checklists designed to address chemical identification, evidence collection, decontamination and general response to terrorist use of a weapon of mass destruction About DGI Defense Group Inc. (DGI), a high-technology professional services and hardware company, provides research, development, analysis, integration management, and marketing support with scientific, engineering and technical services to a wide range of government and commercial customers.
