8/2/2000 Itronix Announces Availability of Citrix ICA Technology for Windows CE with Husky fex21 Handheld Wireless Computer Itronix Corporation, a world leader in the design and manufacture of ruggedised, wireless mobile computing solutions, has announced the immediate availability of its Husky fex21 handheld wireless computer with Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS) Independent Computing Architecture (ICA®) technology for the Microsoft Windows CE operating system. The incorporation of the Citrix ICA technology gives Husky fex21 users a high level of server-based application performance, comparable to that of applications running locally on the desktop. Citrix ICA technology gives Husky fex21 users ‘Virtual Screen Control’, the first server-based computing feature that allows handheld PCs to navigate application displays designed for larger desktop screens. ICA enables fex21 users to access applications, such as Windows office productivity and line-of-business tools, via a wireless network. Marco Landi, Itronix’ General Manager for Handheld Products, comments, "The introduction of the Citrix ICA technology gives fex21 users, particularly in warehousing, industrial and medical premises, much greater scope to utilise server-based applications and databases in order to complete their allotted tasks more quickly and efficiently. With decreasing communication costs and increased band-width, it is likely that Citrix ICA will be also used by field personnel in wide area network applications. These personnel will be able to enjoy the benefits of the industry’s most rugged and resilient handheld wireless computer together with the latest technology for remote access to server-based computer systems." Citrix ICA enabled Husky fex21 handheld computers give field personnel, high-performance access to applications as though they were based in their own office. In addition, through Citrix ICA’s firewall capabilities, they are able to safely access the Internet while preventing unauthorised access from outside. "It is all about delivering information to those that need it. An engineer that can gather key information whilst actively working on a task will be saving huge amounts of time for both himself and his customer. This is another key development in Itronix’ objective to make the Husky fex21 the service industry’s wireless computer of choice," concludes Landi. About Citrix ICA With more than 24 million users worldwide and 6 million concurrent user licenses since its introduction in 1995, the Citrix“ Independent Computing Architecture (ICA“) is an emerging industry standard for server-based computing. Citrix ICA technology includes a server software component, a network protocol component, and a client software component. On the server, ICA separates application logic from the user interface and executes 100% of the application on the server. The ICA network protocol transports keystrokes, mouse clicks and screen updates over standard protocols to the client, typically consuming less than 5 kilobits-per-second of network bandwidth. On the client, users see and work only with the application’s interface.
