Itronix Announces GoBook MAX™, The New Standard For Powerful, Lightweight, Ultra-Rugged Field Computing

700 MHz Pentium Processor, Intrinsically Safe, High Performance Wireless Communications, all bundled in the World’s Most Ultra-Rugged Notebook PC

SPOKANE, WA (September 20, 2001)—Itronix Corporation, a world leader in the design and manufacture of ruggedized, wireless mobile computing solutions, has established a new benchmark in ultra-rugged mobile computers with the debut of GoBook MAX™, www.gobookmax.com, the most powerful, ergonomic, versatile, and rugged notebook PC in the world.

Exceeding any other ruggedized mobile notebook computer ever created, the new GoBook MAX combines best-in-class Intel processor speed, built-in high-performance wireless communications, an intrinsically safe, waterproof design, and field-upgradable wireless capability, all in a thin six pound ergonomically designed case that maximizes portability for mobile workers. GoBook MAX joins its sister product, the Itronix GoBook™, as industry-leading solutions for workforces requiring reliable, fast, and flexible field computing and wireless communications.

"GoBook MAX is simply an unparalleled ruggedized computing product," said Jeff Gibbons, Itronix VP/Marketing. "The GoBook MAX has been designed and fully tested to meet or exceed all MIL SPEC 810E military standards for ruggedization, including shock, drop, vibration, extreme operating temperature, water, condensing humidity, dust, and salt fog. It is also rated intrinsically safe with a classification of Class 1, Division 2, Group D, making it suitable for aerospace flight line and HazMat environments, meaning that it can be decontaminated/washed down after being used around flammable or hazardous materials."

Providing the versatility needed to meet changing communications needs is Itronix’ exclusive Common Radio Module Architecture, or CRMA™ (pronounced "karma"). CRMA enables GoBook MAX users to swap wireless modems or switch networks in the field, avoiding costly service bureau returns and increasing productivity regardless of future wireless requirements.

"Portability, processing power, and exceptional upgradability are becoming increasingly important to enterprise-level purchasers or ruggedized mobile PCs," said J. Gerry Purdy, Ph.D., President & CEO of Mobile Insights, a leading mobile computing industry research and consulting firm. "The new GoBook MAX offers users excellent performance in all these areas, making it a serious contender for any ultra rugged extreme computing application."

Public Safety, Telecommunications, Military, Aerospace Applications

GoBook MAX is built to withstand the harsh environmental conditions faced by utility, military, telecommunications, airline, and other demanding occupations. Its die-cast magnesium case, including keyboard and screen, can resist direct exposure to 4 inches of blowing rain per hour, a level equivalent to that found in typhoons. The unit also exceeds the MIL-STD (military standard) test for drops onto concrete—54 drops instead of the required 26. GoBook MAX passes using one test model; MIL-STD allows up to five models to be used.

Operating temperatures for the GoBook MAX range from –30C to +60°C (-22°F to 140°F), with storage temperatures ranging from -55°C to +75°C (-67°F to +167°F). Display hinges are designed for 30,000+ openings and closings to ensure long-life and reliable performance. Plus, at just 6.2 pounds and 2.15" thin, the GoBook MAX is the easiest-to-carry ultra-rugged computer on the market.

Computing Power, Wireless Versatility

GoBook MAX ships with a Pentium III 700 MHz CPU, the fastest processor found in any ruggedized notebook PC. Standard memory includes 128 MB SDRAM (upgradable to 512 MB SDRAM) and a shock-mounted 20 GB hard drive; a lithium-ion 5400 mAHr battery pack provides MAXimum run time on the road.

The 10.4 inch SVGA TFT ColorVue Touch Display on the GoBook MAX provides one of the fastest, easiest-to-use interfaces available, and is bright enough to see in direct sunlight. A full size, glow in the dark QWERTY keyboard enables the user to operate the GoBook MAX at night or in low-light conditions.

To ensure wireless communication flexibility, the GoBook MAX accepts BellSouth Wireless Data, Cisco Wireless LAN, Motient, and CDPD. Together with its built-in, full-feature radio bay offering 56k V.90 fax/modem (a combined modem and 10/100M Ethernet LAN card is optional), the unit offers multiple WAN and LAN configurations.

Industry-Leading Support

The Itronix GoBook MAX is backed by the best end-to-end life cycle support available anywhere: a limited lifetime warranty on the case, connectors and electrical components, and 1-year warranty on batteries, with unlimited warranty extensions optional. Technical support, application development, service programs, project consulting/management, and training/installation services are all available to ensure complete user satisfaction.

The new Itronix GoBook MAX is now available at an MSRP of $5,995. For a full list of specs and a list of resellers carrying GoBook MAX, or for more information on any other Itronix ruggedized computing product, visit www.itronix.com or call Itronix direct at 1-800/441-1309.
