SPRINT ADDS ITRONIX TO PCS BUSINESS PARTNER SOLUTIONS PROGRAM -- New Agreement Includes certification of all Itronix products

New agreement includes certification of complete line of Itronix wireless, rugged computing products

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Oct. 21, 2003 – Sprint (NYSE: FON, PCS) today announced that Itronix, a global leader in wireless, rugged mobile computing solutions, has become a new member of the PCS Business SolutionsSM Program. Under the agreement, Sprint and Itronix will work to co-market and deploy Itronix's complete line of wireless, rugged mobile computing products, which include CDMA, 1XRTT rugged laptops, a tablet PC and handheld devices that are certified for use on the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network. Sprint customers will be able to receive pre-activated Itronix devices and have access to Itronix award-winning implementation and support services.

Based on the Sierra Wireless AirCard 550 OEM module, Itronix wireless, rugged devices include the "ultra-rugged" GoBook MAX laptop, the "rugged" GoBook II laptop, the "rugged" GoBook Tablet PC, the "ultra-rugged" GoBook Q-100 Pocket PC handheld and the "rugged" fex21 handheld PC. Itronix's complete line of wireless, rugged computing devices are built to withstand any situation a mobile workforce may encounter, including rain, snow, wind, dust, shock and vibration.

"Sprint welcomes Itronix into the PCS Business Solutions program and considers this agreement a key step in meeting the specialized needs for mobile applications in field service and public safety, as well as additional markets for insurance, telecommunications and utility companies," said Phil Bowman, vice president of business marketing for the PCS Division of Sprint. "The availability of these new ruggedized wireless devices significantly increases the productivity levels possible through mobile solutions via the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network."

"Our partnership with Sprint means that customers are now able to choose from a line of world-class wireless, rugged computing devices that are pre-activated for the only nationwide CDMA 1XRTT network," said Matthew Gerber, vice president of worldwide marketing and business development for Itronix. "In addition, Itronix is committed to providing customers with our single-source deployment and implementation services that help to lessen the burden on IT and operating functions, as well as improve productivity of the mobile workforce."

Located near Seattle, Washington, the City of Federal Way Police Department (FWPD) is one of the first customers to benefit from using Itronix wireless, rugged GoBook II laptops over the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network. FWPD has equipped a portion of its squad cards with Itronix GoBook II laptops, enabling officers to remotely access the department record system to look up suspect descriptions, view mug shots and write and submit reports.

"Originally we started out using laptops with 900 MHZ radio frequency for data communication to and from our dispatch system and soon realized that in order to accomplish our goals, we needed better laptops, a better communications medium at higher speeds, better network security and enhancement in our records systems," said Mehdi Sadri, information systems manager for the City of Federal Way. "We found Sprint to be very responsive to our questions and the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network provided the highest bandwidth and largest advanced services coverage in our area. Itronix laptops were found most reasonable in cost and the most durable. Our officers liked the screen and keyboards, and Itronix also had one of the best customer service, warranty and maintenance programs available."

Since the deployment with Itronix and Sprint, Federal Way PD has dramatically improved productivity, allowing officers to access and update information as it happens and spend more time patrolling the community and less time at the station writing reports. FWPD plans to expand its current mobile solution adding laptops to approximately 40-45 patrol cars and provide access to additional information including company email and time sheets.

The PCS Business Solutions Program was designed to provide significantly more opportunities and flexibility for Sprint business customers to acquire and deploy core wireless data solutions including wireless email and connection cards, as well as more complex offerings that typically satisfy the needs of vertical markets. PCS BSP members include leading system integrators, independent software vendors, original equipment manufacturers, distributors and value-added resellers in the IT industry.
